SOME people claim that, since the inventors of the Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) pronounced the extension as "jif", that this ends all debate on the matter and officially cements this as the OTP (one true pronunciation). My opinion is that a bunch of 1980s computer nerds know absolutely nothing of the semantics of the English language, it makes no sense for the word "graphics" to shift to a soft G in the acronym, and saying "jif" simply sounds reDACTed and should only be applied to the brand of peanut butter.
What say you?

I don't think 'OTP' matters for anything anyway. People should pronounce things the way comfortable for them. (For example, Mweor is supposed to be pronounced rhyming with eeyore, I pronounce it Mwe-er, which is close enough. Someone I know in RL pronounces it Meow-er, and even though I correct her, good for her, it's more comfortable for her. xD) As long as you're not doing something like pronouncing 'cool whip' like 'cool hwip' then I don't see a problem with pronouncing it differently then what people say is official.

This, too...I don't think people should be arguing that the original developers' pronunciation is "THE TRULY CORRECT WAY" because in the end it doesn't really matter, since it's kind of a tomayto/tomahto or pecahn/peecan thing xD plus the fact that it's technically an acronym and not a word in itself means it can be pronounced many ways...with some file formats I pronounce it like a word (ex. "j-peg") but with others I just pronounce like an acronym (like p-n-g)

mweor does not rhyme with eeyore. xD it's like MWEEE (think sea) errrrrrr so dem people are wrong.
and i think it's hard g, and if someone pronounces caramel as "KARA UH MELL" I hate them. that's just not acceptable.

^ no, it's mwee-or. The admins said so themselves. xD
